Berlin 6.8.2024: At Hiroshima-Day a demonstration from Japanese- to USA-embassy took place. A nearby bannerdrop demanded to disinvite Israel from remembrance memory in Japan.

About 50 Persons from Asian Initiatives together with the Initiative “Stop Arming Israel” and some anarchist/autonomous supporters participated in the small and quick demonstration from the Japanese Embassy in the Tiergarten embassy district to the US-Embassy at Brandenburger Tor.

Before the demo, activists also made a bannerdrop on the Hiroshima-bridge near the Embassy of Japan that demands to disinvite Israel from the remembering ceremony in Japan. While Israel was invited to attend the ceremony in Hiroshima, it’s not invited to attend the ceremony in Nagasaki some days later.
The Hiroshima-bridge is a little footbridge over the Landwehrkanal (small river/canal) in the district Tiergarten leading to the embassy district. Near by among others also the Embassy of Japan, the Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation of the social-democratic Party SPD and the German Federal Ministry of Defence.

The demo started with a rally in front of the embassy of Japan. Slogans were shouted in english, japanese and german. Different initiatives held speeches against the usage of nuclear technology, against the complicity with Israel and against the worldwide colonialism and as well against the repression of Germany against left wing activists and remembrance initiatives.

Because of the ongoing genocide against Palestinians, a main demand from the demo was to disinvite Israel from the ceremony in Hiroshima on the 79th anniversary of the atomic bombing of this city.

At the closing rally at the opposite street-side of the US-embassy also some greetings-speeches from intersectionalist activists of Japan were read out through the megaphone. They informed, that nearly any protest against the presence of Israel in the ceremony in Hiroshima was forbidden, and also some relatives of survivors of the atomic bombings were not invited.

Quote of the call to the demo:
“On the occasion of the 79th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, we, various individuals and groups in Berlin, invite you to a demonstration from the Embassy of Japan to the US Embassy entitled ‘Hiroshima is a constant struggle!*’ We demand: The abolition of nuclear weapons and nuclear power plants, as well as nuclear colonialism! Decolonisation of the culture of remembrance! Disinvite Israel from the “Peace Ceremony” in Hiroshima! We will continue to talk about Palestine!”
